Away from radios and technology, there’s another classic in the mix: my black 1989 Rover Mini 30. It’s a little car with plenty of character, and despite a few setbacks along the way, it’s back on the road.
A special little Mini
The Mini 30 was introduced in 1989 to celebrate 30 years of the original Mini. It’s a small part of a much bigger motoring story, and one of the things that makes this particular model interesting.
For me, part of the appeal is how much character fits into such a small package. The classic Mini has a look all of its own, and it doesn’t need much changing to stand out.

Back on the road
This Mini’s story hasn’t been entirely straightforward. Following a crash in 2015, it was restored and returned to the road.
That restoration is an important part of its history. Alongside its age and original character, it now has another chapter to its name—and, thankfully, that chapter involves being back on the road.

Mostly original, with a few modern touches
The car remains almost entirely standard. The main changes are a modern stereo and brighter lights: a couple of practical updates alongside an otherwise largely original Mini.
It’s a modest list of changes, but that suits the car. There’s already plenty of personality in the original design, so it doesn’t take a long list of modifications to make it something special.
Small, simple and unmistakably a Mini—it has its own place here alongside the other projects and interests on the site.
